Answer engine optimization (AEO)
The practice of structuring content “so AI-powered search systems can extract, understand, and cite it as a direct answer”, as defined in a Local Blitz guide.[1]
Citation
A mention of a business’s name, address and phone number on another website, such as a directory. Local Blitz lists building citations as part of local SEO.[2][3]
Conversion rate optimization (CRO)
Improving the user experience and encouraging visitors to take desired actions. Local Blitz lists it among its disciplines.[4][5]
Generative engine optimization (GEO)
Optimizing content for AI-generated answers in platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews, according to a Local Blitz article.[6]
Google Business Profile
A business’s listing on Google, with its services, customer reviews and location details. Local Blitz calls it “a premier lead source for numerous local businesses”.[7]
Interruption marketing
Marketing that creates awareness on platforms such as Facebook, as opposed to search-based marketing. Local Blitz uses the distinction when planning campaigns.[8]
Key performance indicator (KPI)
A metric used to judge a campaign. Local Blitz says it sets KPIs with each client at the start of a project and reports on them.[9]
Lead tracking
Identifying and analyzing every source of potential business. Local Blitz describes tracking leads “from click to call”.[7][9]
Local pack
The block of map-linked business listings that Google shows for searches with local intent, drawn from Google Business Profiles.[2]
Local SEO
Optimizing a business to rank in Google’s local pack, map listings and local search results, including its Google Business Profile, citations and location-specific keywords.[3]
Off-page SEO
Actions outside a website that affect its rankings, mainly building backlinks from reputable sites.[4]
On-page SEO
Optimizing individual pages, including their content and HTML elements such as meta tags and headers, to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic.[4]
Organic SEO
Improving a website’s visibility through “natural, non-paid search engine rankings”.[10]
Penalty recovery
Helping websites recover from Google penalties, such as those from algorithm updates or manual actions. It is the focus of Simon White’s SEO Fire Fighter work.[4][11]
Pay-per-click (PPC)
Online advertising in which the advertiser pays each time someone clicks an ad, commonly on Google Ads and Facebook Ads.[3]
Schema markup
Structured data that helps search engines understand the content and context of web pages.[4]
Search-based marketing
Marketing that reaches people when they go to search engines to solve a problem they have.[8]
Search engine optimization (SEO)
Improving a website’s visibility on search engines such as Google so that it appears higher for relevant keywords and earns organic (unpaid) traffic.[3]
Technical SEO
Optimizing a website’s structure and technology to improve crawling, indexing and loading, for example site speed, mobile-friendliness and sitemaps.[4]
